Welcome to my site and thank you for taking the time to visit. My name is Dwight Goodyear and I am a pianist, composer, and philosophy professor who creates experimental and cinematic music that usually connects Western ideas of harmony and song structure with Chinese and Japanese musical traditions and aesthetics. I like creating what I refer to as "musical gates", that is, works which feature a strong sense of passing into a mysterious, transcendent, or even terrifying musical world of suspension. I employ these gates to explore the beautiful, the sublime, and the uncanny. As you see, you can sample all the songs on my albums (the store may not be available from a mobile device). If you want to listen to a few representative tunes in their entirety, go to LISTEN TO FULL SONGS and click the track you want to hear. I have provided song notes there as well. You can also listen to my albums on youtube. If you want to read about the concepts behind my albums, please go to the ALBUM NOTES link. Feel free to sign my mailing list so I can inform you of upcoming solo piano shows in the New York area and my forthcoming releases. And please check out the PHILOSOPHY BLOG link where you can access my essay/blog site "Philosophical Eggs". Again, thanks for visiting!
